D-Orbit is hiring a systems engineer to join the CTO Engineering Office. As part of the CTO staff, you will contribute to the definition and development of the technical and technological roadmap of company spacecraft platforms and in general any technical solutions developed by the Technology Engineering team.

You will work on feasibility studies and preliminary technical assessments basing on inputs received from the Business Development unit and directly from the CTO staff. You will support the CTO office in monitoring the developments of D-Orbit spacecrafts (s/c) platforms and R&D projects.

As part of your duties, you will work together with relevant people from any other engineering department, including AOCS&GNC, Structure, Mechanism and Thermal, Software (ground and space), Propulsion, HW, RF&Telecom, and System Engineering. You will participate to the s/c platform development and have visibility over full design and development cycle of the systems platform, starting from the preliminary design and the requirements capture, systems and systems/subsystems design, analysis and trade-off, definition and execution of the s/c verification campaign, test plan and procedures, including tests on prototypes and real Flight Model s/c.

Moreover, you will support constant monitoring of company engineering processes to identify opportunities for improvement. You will post process data according to pre-defined metrics to create KPIs reports on overall engineering effectiveness. You will contribute to scouting for new tools/technologies to improve overall efficiency of processes / project teams. Eventually, your work as a systems engineer within the CTO office will have a direct impact in shaping the technical ecosystem, in terms of platforms, processes and team.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Actively contribute and monitor the development of systems architecture and subsystems design;
• Preliminary mission analysis, new system architecture feasibility analysis and mission/system concepts drafting, system architecture and subsystems definition and budgeting;
• Market needs and user stories capturing and support in definition of mission/system requirements;
• Work within a multidisciplinary team of specialists on the systems and s/s design;
• Support the CTO staff in interfacing with the platform development teams to monitor technological progresses, prepares periodic reports to the CTO office, highlighting opportunities and criticalities;
• Perform technology scouting to identify new technologies potentially fitting the tech roadmap;
• Perform market assessment to identify business lines potentially fitting the tech portfolio;
• Perform process surveys to evaluate opportunities to improve effectiveness and performances;
• Perform retrospective of internal processes/platform and postprocess results to evaluate KPIs;
• Dissemination of CTO office decision in periodic meetings, collection of needs and MOM reporting;
• Overall support the CTO office in the execution of the duties related to tech platforms and processes.

Professional Experience:

We are interested in speaking to people with a minimum of one year of experience working in the field of Spacecraft design and development.

Required Technical Skills:

• Knowledge of Systems Engineering principles and systems-level knowledge of all spacecraft subsystems;
• Experience in the use of Matlab and Python;
• Experience in requirements configuration management tool, e.g. DOORS / Jama;
• Knowledge of Microsoft Excel;
• Able to synthesize, writing MOM with all and minimum amount of information;
• Proactive attitude and ability to work in a team;
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
• Clear and effective communication skills mandatory, including with people working remotely;

Nice-to-have skills:

• Working experience in space transportation and servicing applications;
• Knowledge of data busses architectures;
• Knowledge of Mission analysis tool (GMAT/orekit);
• Basic knowledge of software development and configuration management, e.g. GIT or Bitbucket;
• Knowledge of Linux.
• Knowledge of ECSS/NASA standards.

Education:

University degree preferably in the fields of Aerospace/Space Engineering.

Language:

This role requires professional proficiency in English.
